Do you know what’s the scariest thing that can happen while travelling? Go on, take a guess. Getting lost, running out of funds, being alone? Well, these may be true for some people but for me, the answer sure is power shortage for my travel gear. I mean, imagine the frustration when you cannot take pictures or share anything on social media despite having all the right travel gadgets with you (especially your smartphone). Battery life drainage sure is the biggest problem in today’s time. Period.

Being a backpacker I’m constantly on the move and therefore, it’s really hard to find a charging spot easily. Since I’m also a travel blogger (probably your favorite one :p), it’s my job to constantly capture moments in the form of images and share them with my readers. Be it a travel guide, a blog or simply a social media update- images are essential. Can you imagine encountering a stunning landscape only to find that both your phone and camera are out of charge? Plus, a lisztomaniac like me cannot afford to lose track of music anytime as it is the major source of my energy. But all this needs the right travel gear and more importantly, its power source.

Believe me, I’ve tried all sort of hacks for optimizing the use of my mobile battery. Some of the most helpful ones being:

  • Putting phone on flight mode
  • Closing all the applications in use
  • Turning off the Wifi & Bluetooth
  • Lowering screen brightness & put the phone on Night-Shift mode (May affect your camera use)

And last but not the least using a portable charger (as some of the clever readers amongst the audience would suggest 😉 ) But even after trying all these, I needed a sure-shot, soul-satisfying option and that’s when I put my hands on a totally new travel gear- Asus Zenfone 3 Max.

With the battery power of 4130 mAh and a promise to last for busy working days on one charge, I was pretty satisfied with this new travel gear of mine. The Asus Zenfone 3 Max runs on Android OS, v 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) and has a 5.2 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with Internal Storage of 32GB & 3GB RAM. All of these technical features give it a bit of much-needed edge for sure. (Because obviously, my only reason to invest in a brand new travel gear can’t be just the battery :p ).

The next best thing about the Asus Zenfone 3 Max is that it has a great 13 MegaPixel back and 5 MegaPixel front camera along with f/2.2, autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR Video [email protected] and what not! It gives you the option of full manual functioning and allows you to choose your ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Manual Focus and Exposure Value.

Now that I have been using this phone for almost a month, (in which I’ve travelled to many places like: Jaipur(Rajasthan), Rishikesh(Uttarakhand), Delhi, and Nepal) I’ve clicked a few decent pictures with it:

Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India.

Kathmandu, Nepal.

But wait that’s not all! This travel gear has a lot more to it. Since it is really strong on the battery part, it has this amazing feature that allows you to charge other devices with your phone itself. In my case, it served as a power bank for my other travel gear such as GoPro, watch as well as the music player. I was amazed as I travelled and found I could go days without charging and use it for pictures and more and the battery meter would hardly move!

So, overall, I kinda like this phone as per my usage and travel needs. I hope you guys find this article helpful. I’ll carry on with more amazing reviews on my travel gear series here. Keep an eye!!
