“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
Bob Marley.

Speakers have come a long way, from big boom boxes to very compact ones like a Jar of Jam. Also, they’ve gone wireless. Your phone’s speakers are absolute now, it’s time for you to set your music free and buy a Bluetooth speaker. I know, I know you must be thinking that it’s not that easy to buy one, with such a vast array of choices out there. It can be a lot of headache buying one for you which is in your budget and at the same time does its job perfectly. You’ll find great Bluetooth speakers from huge names like Bose, Sony, Motorola, UE etc. The more you go on searching, the more you get confused.

To help you in your journey, I’ve already got a Bluetooth Speaker available right now in terms of value, performance and design. After searching on for days and comparing speakers from different companies, I finally landed on the JBL Charge 2 Plus So, without further ado, I’m here to help you make a purchase decision, let’s get started.

Let’s check out some of JBL Charge 2 Plus’ technical specs:

  • Weight : 600 g
  • Power Output : 15W
  • Battery : 6000mAH Li-ion
  • Battery life : upto 12 hours
  • Bluetooth : Yes v3.0
  • Wireless range : 30+ feet
  • NFC : No
  • Aux-in : Yes
  • Frequency response :75Hz – 20kHz
  • USB Charging : Yes

Going over the physical aspects first, the overall aesthetics in my opinion is much improved over the first generation of the Charge 2. The same durable frame, grill and plastics are still there and it looks much more sturdier now. The buttons are covered with silicone like material, they are very clicky and gives a tactile feedback to ensure a press has been made. To the far left is the Power button, followed by the Bluetooth, then volume up n down, then a social group button which can pair up to 3 devices at once and at last going to the end is the speakerphone button. You can receive incoming calls with this and talk to the other person with the built in microphone in the charge 2+.

Also there are LEDs down the volume buttons which are the battery indicator for the speaker. Also there two radiators on either side, which look really cool when music is pumping, which has a great deal of Bass in it. Turning it back, there is a Micro USB port to charge the speaker, a 3.5 mm Audio Jack and a USB port to charge your additional devices (Yes, it works as a Power Bank!).

Jbl 2 plus Bluetooth speaker, a must have gadget while travelling - Aakash Ranison

What I like about it,

  1. Excellent Sound
  2. Great Bass (In it’s price segment)
  3. Water-resistant (Splash proof)
  4. Good Battery life
  5. 2-in-1 Speaker + Power bank
  6. Fun to use the Social Mode

What I don’t like about it,

  1. Not Water proof (would be a deal breaker for some travelers out there)
  2. Speakerphone is not that good
  3. A little expensive.

Verdict

So, what do I feel about it? Well, I think it’s Complete.. Coming in at a price of around ₹12,000 is the JBL Charge 2 plus , is really hard to beat. It offers impressive sound that’s much more full-bodied than I’d thought a speaker this small could produce. It is a well built, well-designed speaker that features a good battery life and also performs good as an external charge or power-bank for your portable devices. When compared to the rest of the Bluetooth speakers out there, the charge 2 does offer more and is distortion free. It does offers decent warmth and bass for music. But it is definitely not the “Best” out there. It is not water proof and that can be deal breaking for some out there. You get what you pay. Don’t expect it to have everything now.

With all that being said, the speaker sounds great and you can push a pretty good amount of vibe with this. Being brighter and offering a good bit of bass, it provides sound that is definitely pleasing to the ears. For watching movies on the go, this does absolutely great for a Portable speaker in my opinion. Not just that, it has built-in speakerphone support which is decent and the tethering support of pairing three devices simultaneously via Social Mode makes it fun to use. Lastly, outdoor enthusiasts will love that this speaker is also splash-proof and plays loud, simply making it a value for money device.
